A key way attackers gain access to a company's resources is through a network connected to the Internet. A company wants to try to prevent as many attacks as possible; but in cases where it cannot prevent an attack, it must detect it in a timely manner.
Some 7 million U.S. adults were identity theft victims during the past 12 months, according to new
Gartner research. Because the crime is often misclassified, the thieves have a one out of 700 chance of being caught.
The truth of the matter is that

Security is costing
companies millions and the economy billions. Believing
static
passwords provide any level of security is simply wishful thinking.
Just ask the FBI or the SANS Institute or
Gartner.
They all warn against the use of static passwords as a security measure.
